A Havgus passes three pairs of hands before it is folded. None of them is in another country.
19.5 micron lambswool from two flocks near Ringkøbing, scoured without chlorine and spun two-ply at a small mill in Herning. Nothing is superwash-treated.
Body and sleeves on one machine, bands and buttonholes by hand. Oluf finishes four cardigans in a working day and will not do five; the fifth is always the one that comes back.
Every piece is washed once at 30 °C and dried flat on the line behind the house before it is measured again. The size on the label is the size after that wash.
The cardigan folded in unbleached tissue, a spare horn button, a metre of the same yarn for mending, a card printed with the measurements of your exact size in centimetres, and the return label. No plastic, no polybag, no scented card. The whole parcel weighs about 380 g and fits through a Danish letterbox.
Fit
Chest, flat and unstretched: 62 is 27 cm, 74 is 30 cm, 86 is 32 cm, 98 is 35 cm, 110 is 38 cm. Shoulder to hem: 32, 36, 41, 45, 49 cm. Sleeve from the shoulder seam: 21, 25, 29, 33, 37 cm. The full table, with the woven pieces too, is on the fit page.
One size. Between two sizes, always the larger. The cuffs turn back twice and the hem has 4 cm folded inside, so a size 98 bought for a two-year-old looks right for three winters rather than one. Children who are long in the body rather than broad should go up as well.
Wool and washing
This one is 19.5 micron, which is below the threshold most people feel as prickle. The neckband is knitted in the same yarn rather than a ribbed edging, so there is no seam at the back of the neck. If it is still wrong for your child, send it back within 60 days.
Yes: wool programme, 30 °C, wool detergent, no softener, spin at 600 or less, dry flat. It has already been washed once here, so it will not shrink further. A cardigan worn daily needs washing far less often than cotton — air it overnight and most marks go.
Buying and sending back
Nothing inside Denmark, because the cardigan is over 600 kr; 1–2 working days from the Thursday post. Sweden, Norway and Germany 85 kr, 3–5 days. Rest of the EU 120 kr, 4–8 days. Everything leaves Fjaltring on a Thursday afternoon.
Post it to Trandumvej 6 and Sigrid mends it free, for as long as the cardigan is in a family we sold it to — including the second and third child. Moth holes up to about a 2 kr coin are re-knitted so the repair does not read from a metre away.
Three pieces that go with the cardigan, with today’s prices and stock.
All five sizes hang on the rail at Trandumvej 6, Thursday to Saturday, 10 to 4. Bring the child; it takes four minutes to know.
Nothing is held back for the shop floor — the rail and this page show the same 31 cardigans.
Buy in the house and we post it to you free if you would rather not carry it.
