The Rugbrød Jumper comes back on 14 March

Its price has not changed and it has not been hidden: 610 kr, sizes 98 to 116. The yarn for the next run is spun and on the shelf, and Oluf casts on in the third week of February. Twenty-two go on the needles; fourteen are already spoken for.

If you ask for one we write to you the morning they are unpacked, before this page changes. We never take money for a piece that is not finished.

Everything is photographed on the same blanket

The grey wool blanket in most of these pictures is 100 × 140 cm, and something ordinary — a hand, a cup, a wooden peg — is always lying beside the garment. That is the only way we have found to show a stranger that a size 62 cardigan is the length of a forearm.

No piece is ever stretched on a board or pinned taut. What you see is how it comes out of the drawer.

Before you order

Getting it to you

What does delivery cost and how long does it take?

Denmark 45 kr, free over 600 kr, 1–2 working days. Sweden, Norway and Germany 85 kr, 3–5 days. Rest of the EU 120 kr, 4–8 days. Parcels leave Fjaltring on Thursday afternoon, so an order placed Friday morning waits six days before it moves.

How long do I have to send something back?

60 days, unworn and unwashed, with the return label that comes in the parcel. We pay the return postage inside Denmark. A swap for another size is always free, anywhere we post to.

What arrives in the box?

The garment, folded in unbleached tissue; a spare horn button and a metre of matching yarn for mending; a card with the measurements of that exact size in centimetres; and the printed return label. No plastic anywhere in the parcel.

Fit, fibre and washing

My child is between two sizes. Which one?

Take the larger one. Every knitted piece has a 4 cm hem and 3 cm cuffs that can be let down twice, so a jumper bought a size up is a jumper for three winters rather than one. Woven pieces run truer; take the child’s own centimetre height there.

What is the wool, and will it itch?

Everything next to the skin is 19.5 micron merino lambswool from two flocks in Ringkøbing. Outer jumpers are a sturdier 23 micron two-ply, which is warmer and does pill a little in the first month. Nothing is superwash-treated, so nothing is coated in resin.

How do I wash it without ruining it?

Wool programme, 30 °C, wool detergent, no softener, spin at 600 or less. Dry flat. Every piece is washed once here before it is sent, so the shrinkage has already happened. If a piece felts in its first year we re-knit it and pay postage both ways.

Not sure which size?

Send us the child’s height in centimetres and we will tell you which of the twelve will still fit next winter. We answer the same week, by hand.

Free size swaps, anywhere we post, for a year after you buy.

Mending is free for as long as the piece is in a family we have sold to.
